Tier 1A - Standards-Based World Language and ELL Instruction to Address the Common Core and Today’s Students
For teachers of all languages and ELL teachers, this hands-on and interactive workshop focuses on standards-based instructional practices that develop student proficiency and common core competencies. Presenters will demonstrate a wide variety of strategies that work to keep today’s students actively engaged and in the target language. Participants will learn effective, classroom-tested, ready-to-use strategies to reach and teach diverse student populations through demonstrations, examples, and video clips. Check-in room: CE-110
Tier 1B - Using Stories to Enhance Standards-Based World Language and ELL Instruction and to Address the Common Core
For teachers of all languages and ELL, this workshop presents highly motivating and engaging storytelling strategies to develop language proficiency and common core competencies. Participants will learn easy steps to accelerate proficiency through a variety of Comprehensible Input techniques: oral, reading, and stories. The program emphasizes standards-based approaches that are effective, classroom-tested, research based and ACTFL supported to reach and teach diverse student populations. Pre-requisite: Tier 1A or equivalent. Check-in room: CE-110
Tier 2 - Standards-Based Instructional Practices to Address the Common Core for Teachers of Advanced Spanish Classes
In this workshop for teachers of Spanish 3, 4, AP Language and Culture, and Spanish for Spanish Speakers, participants will be shown how to implement four new engaging and motivating thematic units using AP College Board themes that are designed to ensure student success on the AP Spanish Language and Culture Exam and to develop common core competencies. The workshop will address all areas included in the new examination: essential questions, aural/oral skills, reading comprehension, grammar, and composition. Participants will receive all materials presented as well as suggestions for implementation. ALL NEW UNITS. Check-in room: CE-110
Tier 3 - Using Technologies to Enhance Standrds-Based World Language and ELL Instruction and the Common Core.
For teachers of all languages and ELL. This interactive and hands-on workshop focuses on using technology as a tool to enhance standards-based instructional practices that develop proficiency and global competencies. Participants will explore engaging tech tools for all three modes of communication and for all states of a lesson including tools for lesson planning, input, practice, and assessment. Regardless of the computer configuration for your school, these tools will energize your lessons and save you time. Participants will need a laptop or Chromebook for this workshop.. Tablets are not recommended. Check-in room: CE-110
